Rain, Rain Go Away....
3 Ways to Entertain Your Children During a Rainy Day
April showers, bring May flowers…but apparently Mother Nature didn’t catch the memo. Rainy days often leave families and children restless with cabin fever. Luckily for you, Tiny Treasures is here to save the day! Here are 3 great activities to keep your children entertained during the next rainy day.
Children love playing in the rain. However, rain and low temperatures often lead to little ones getting sick. Rainy days can also be a tad bit stressful for parents. If you are on the East coast like we are, it has been raining for almost two weeks in some areas, which limits your child’s ability for outside play, thus making you in charge of coming up with activities. Instead of letting the kids sit in front of the TV all day, a little pre/post rain day preparation goes a long way.
S’mores and Snores!
Indoor camping is a perfect way to make a rainy day work in your favor. Grab some flash lights, pull out the sleeping bags, or even better, pitch a tent! Enjoy camp songs, eat some snacks, read stories, and enjoy! P.S don’t forget the SMORES!
Chef it up!
Bring the fun into the kitchen! Baking yummy treats is a perfect snow day activity. Allowing your children to help, is not only fun, but educational! Baking deals with tons of math. From learning fractions (¼ cup of milk) and counting (add 2 eggs) to telling time (bake cake for 30 minutes). Your kids will have so much fun, they won’t even notice that they are learning too!
There are so many neat arts and crafts projects that can be create with everyday household items. Paper bag puppets are a favorite of ours. A puppet show is great opportunity to bring a child’s imagination to life. Start by creating a story. Have your children pick everything from the plot to characters. Next, grab some paper bags, paints, glue sticks, construction paper and create your characters. Finally, use your living room couch as a barrier and while you the parents sit in the audience, your children are bringing their imagination to life.
With a little pre- planning and a lot of creativity, the next rainy day you will have fun ideas to keep your family entertained. Sunny days are on the horizon so hang in there!
